OSRS is sometimes called RS2 because it was released after RS Classic (aka RS1), the first version of the game released in 2001.

OSRS also still retains the older look & feel, however a third party client called OSBuddy is very popular way to enhance this. OSRS differs from RS3 mainly in that it does not include the new combat system using skills, loot crate style micro-transactions which can give xp advantages (P2W), cosmetic overrides for armor/equipment. In Feb 2013, Oldschool RS (aka OSRS or RS2) was released which was a copy of the game's state in 2007. I say "latest" because both versions receive regular game content updates today and have large separate communities.
